Multichannel as a new category
Digital signage applications are up and coming. The range for use in public spaces is gradually developing to include applications for practically all types of locations. Railway stations, public authorities, hospitals, hotels, shopping centres, retailers as well as companies increasingly rely on digital signage. In this context, a large number of genuine showcase projects are created which impress with their high information or advertising value – flexible, target group appropriate and fast systems of the highest technical standard, delivering the appropriate content depending on the time of day.
Every year since 2007, showcase projects of this kind have been winning prizes in the Digital Signage Best Practice Award competition that is held as part of viscom. The deadline for applications this year is 30 July, with hardware suppliers, agencies, integrators but also clients who commissioned a project eligible to apply for the competition. The prize is awarded by viscom, the International Trade Fair for Visual Communication, Technology and Design in cooperation with Dockter Marketing.
Companies can apply to participate in five different categories: Retail Signage, Guiding Signage, Information Signage, Interactive Signage and Multichannel. The Multichannel category has been included this year for the first time, since increasingly digital signage projects are realised in the context of several cleverly linked applications. “In this category, digital signage is part of an overall multichannel strategy, which may also include web or mobile applications“, says digital signage specialist and jury president Thomas Dockter. In all categories, evaluation is based on the total package. “To this day, our competition is the only one to judge all aspects of a project“, says Thomas Dockter. Therefore, the concept, its realisation and its value for the viewer are all taken into account in the assessment. The aim is “to demonstrate that this is an independent medium of communication – not merely a screen on a wall.” For companies, taking part represents an opportunity to enhance their position in the market and to raise their own profile as well as that of the industry as a whole.
The Digital Signage Best Practice Award 2012
The Digital Signage Best Practice Award has been presented annually since 2007. It looks for digital signage projects that have already been realised. In each category, three entries are nominated. These will be presented to the visitors at viscom frankfurt 2012. One winner per category will be chosen by the jury from these 15 projects. The prize is awarded jointly to the client commissioning the project and the contractor. In 2012, the presentation ceremony will be held on 26 October during viscom night.
The Digital Signage Best Practice Award is meanwhile considered by many the most valuable prize for digital signage projects in Europe. Apart from multinational corporations like Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Deutsche Telekom AG, Coca Cola UK and Audi AG, lesser known newcomers have repeatedly won the award with impressive concepts.
