International Jewellery London to celebrate 55 years as the UK’s top jewellery trade show

14 Feb 2011

324 exhibitors have already confirmed their attendance at International Jewellery London, setting the path for yet another exciting edition this September 4th-7th. IJL, the flagship UK jewellery event, will celebrate 55 years at the forefront of the industry, as the largest jewellery trade event featuring top names, the hottest brands and the latest collections and trends.

Event Manager, Sam Willoughby, revealed today that the 2011 event is already 70% booked, which represents an impressive 10% increase in bookings at this same point in 2010. “This is the second year in a row that the show has reported an increase in exhibitors in early forecasts, and this is following an extremely successful show last year. IJL is seen as a barometer for the industry and it’s great that there is so much positivity ahead of the show,” she commented.

High profile companies and designers such as Shaun Leane, William Cheshire, Aagaard, Dower & Hall, Hans D Krieger, 5C-Jewelry, Antwerp Diamonds and Mark Milton have all announced they will be returning for the 2011 show. 44 new exhibitors are also already looking forward to coming to IJL. These include international fine jewellery companies Henrich & Denzel GmbH, Hesse and Emsaru.

Designers Brands to light up the Design Gallery
Organisers are predicting an outstanding show this year, which will be further enhanced by the launch of a new area – ‘Designer Brands’ – which will be found within the Design Gallery, a dynamic hub of the show. Some of the most established and iconic designers will be unveiling new collections here, including Deakin & Francis, Babette Wasserman, Rachel Galley, Sarah Ho (of SHO Fine Jewellery), and Sarah Jordan.

The Design Gallery at IJL is always buzzing with activity as retailers and buyers check out the latest collections from top designers and brands – this year new exhibitors such as Dancing Aspara and Tina Lilienthal will join show favourites as they launch new ranges. Rising new stars include Daisy Knights, who will be attending IJL as an exhibitor in her own right for the first time this year, following her launch as a Bright Young Gem in 2009 and as a Kickstarter last year. Since then Daisy’s career has taken off, with a prestigious list of retailers stocking her jewellery and celebrities wearing her pieces. Fledgling designers can follow in Daisy’s footsteps and apply to KickStart, which is organised by IJL and the BJA, at www.jewellerylondon.com/kickstart

The iconic ‘IJL Bright Young Gems’ feature will also return this year with its panel featuring some of the best fashion editors in the UK, nominating undiscovered designers who are set to be big in the future, giving them the chance to launch at the premier jewellery show.

Celebrating 55 successful years!
“We’re very excited about the 55th Anniversary show and it’s fantastic that so many quality exhibitors have already announced they are going to be showcasing their latest designs there. We’ve listened to the industry and our Advisory Board and we are passionate about developing and enhancing the show. We’ll be announcing a host of new seminar speakers over the coming months – IJL is famed for its high profile complimentary programme – and the Diamond Club will once again bring senior figures from the best retailers across the UK to IJL” comments Sam Willoughby, Event Manager.

Latest Trends
IJL is not only a place where trends are set, it’s also the place to gain insight, as predicting forthcoming retail and jewellery trends is a real priority for the IJL team.

“At IJL, the top trend forecasting agencies come to the show to tell our visitors what to expect over the coming seasons. Our commitment to unveiling trends also goes beyond the show dates. That’s why we are thrilled that the Daily Telegraph’s award-winning Fashion Director, Hilary Alexander, is producing the IJL exclusive Trends Report in April. Hilary is currently at the fashion week shows and her report is a great way to keep abreast of the latest key looks and trends, which is essential for retailers, buyers, designers and brands,” said Sam Willoughby.

Be a High Street Hit!
F. Hinds are giving two jewellery designers the opportunity to launch a career on the British high street in this new annual competition in association with IJL. There are two categories – one for students and Bright Young Gems, and one for current designers who will be exhibiting at the show. F. Hinds will then work alongside the two winners to develop their winning pieces, with the potential for a guaranteed commission. These will be to be sold exclusively at F. Hinds throughout its 110 high street and shopping mall stores across the UK, as well as online.

For more details, go to www.jewellerylondon.com/fhinds and visitors will be able to view the winners work and meet the designers at the show.
